I have over 5300 Twitter friends @momof3boys3702 at last check and am always looking for more. Why? Because I do quite a bunch of my blog marketing on there. The more followers I have, the more traffic I see from there… which means more traffic on my blog. More traffic on 3 Boys and a Dog means:
- More people want to buy ads
- More comments
- Better review and giveaway opportunities
- More Brand Ambassador opportunities
- Better CMP ads
- Better CPC ads
So, I am going to share a few of the ways I get Twitter followers so that YOU can increase your following!
1. Use it for contests! Meaning: when you run giveaways on your blog, have them follow you and tweet about your giveaway for an extra entry into the giveaway. When your followers tweet about the giveaway, more people see it and they will come around and even follow you!
2. Utilize hashtags in your tweets! I use an over abundance of hashtags… as many as will fit in my tweet sometimes. LOL! Why? People who don’t follow you can’t see your tweets unless they are searching for something – like hash tags!
3. Search #hashtags relevant to your blog! Then, follow the people that are using those tags. They obviously have something in common with you and can help with networking. Some I search on a regular basis:
- #savvyblogging
- #homeschool
- #recipe
- #organize
- #blogchat
- #blogging101
- #giveaway
- #win
4. Attend Twitter Parties and Twitter chats. If you choose ones that are relevant to you and your site, you will find lots of people to interact with!
- Twitter Party Calendar
- List of Twitter Chats
- This week’s Twitter Party List
Yes, there are programs you can use to get a crazy number of followers, but I try to get followers that actually matter.
I want people that I am interested in listening to and that want to listen to me. What do you do to get followers.

I’ve joined twitter following groups in online communities but I’ve found that I followed a whole bunch of them but didn’t get followed back.

I know, personally, I am slammed with so much stuff. I have literally hundreds of emails to get through and over 400 new followers to follow back. Maybe they are just slow on the up-take?
Excellent points Kelli!
Agreed totally with giveaways- following you on twitter is an extra entry and tweeting is an extra entry.
Hashtags do rock for the very reasons you stated.
I think being involved in a twitter group has helped a lot as well. I’ve gained readers and followers!
I also subscribe to http://www.who.unfollowed.me. This allows me to unfollow those who are not following me back as well as ensure I am following everyone who is following me, plus keep track of my unfollows. This has really helped with managing my followers!
I also try really hard to carve out time every Tuesday and Thursday between 10a-2p to tweet. I learned at Bloggy Boot Camp this is the highest traffic times on Twitter.
Great pointers!
I think if I could see who unfollowed me would depress me. LOL! I have my blog set to show me who unfollows and it breaks my heart each time I get the notification.LOL!
I gave you the Stylish Blogger Award…:)

Thank you so much!!
I’ve definitely found a lot of contests via Twitter, and as a result many cool blogs, so those methods definitely work!
Thanks, Erin! I love to participate in Twitter stuff, but I need to find the time to do it again.
This is all really interesting. I had never even heard of a Twitter Party. I have to admit I don’t use Twitter much. I guess I am missing out on a big opportunity. I will have to invest more time on acquiring a Twitter following. Thank you for the advice.
Helpful tips, thanks so much! I have a lot of followers but i think i have hit a plateau… i want to get over the hump! I just followed you
