What Makes Me The Expert?
- I am a mom and while it is actually a very difficult job, it doesn’t take much in the way of an education.
- I am a college-educated blogger and that college education is highly over-rated, not to mention expensive! I am 30 and still paying for it!
The point of the above is to be sure you understand where I am coming from. I am a mom in South Alabama, I say Y’all, and my previous cheerleading experience causes me to use too many pauses and exclamation points.
I like ProBlogger, but many of the “helpful posts” on here are written for the ultra-techie, uber-geeks! I have no clue what FTP nor C-Panel is. I don’t know the difference between XHTML and plain old HTML! Besides, does anyone honestly know Google’s secret algorithms?
But, I know how to get more traffic and I know how to say it in terms the “average blogger” can understand!
5 Steps For More Traffic:
Step #1 – Write! According to all of my research, you simply must write. Blog well, Blog often, and Blog consistantly.
Step #2 – Hyperlink! Utilize the little chain button! That little button that looks like three pieces to a chain link necklace allows you to add a link to your post called a hyperlink. USE IT! A good rule of thumb is to include at least one hyperlink per 100 words in each post. Link to your own posts as well as other sites using keywords.
Step #3 – Use Keywords! Keywords are just what they sound like: Keys in the form of words… hyperlink them so they unlock a door to somewhere! Your readers click the keyword and open another post. To us “Average Bloggers” that means more page views and more traffic! Search engines like keywords and unlike your 10th grade Creative Writing teacher, Google likes to see the exact same word used several times! Not too many times, mind you. So, how many is good? Stick with that 1 per 100 rule and you should be golden!
Step #4 – Know More About Keywords! I already hear the questions, “So, how do I know what to link up and use as keywords?” All the SEO Geniuses will tell you to run month-long research and download multiple items to determine your key keywords. Pfft, I don’t have time for that! I need to write and at some point in my day, I need to be a wife and mother. So, I use an item that I received about the same time my heart first began to beat: COMMON SENSE!
Who do you want finding your blog?
I want people like me finding my blog, so obviously the keywords I use are the ones that I would type into the search engines!
Step #5 – Publish and beg! Get your post great then began the process of pimping it out in comments (you can easily search for commentluv blogs and leave relevant comments on them! Then, your post automatically goes up and it doesn’t count as spam!), on FaceBook, on Twitter, LinkedIn, Forums, and all the other places you live online.
Step #6 – Take a deep breath and start all over again! If you get a wild hair, take that post and sit on it a few days until you can be sure it is the best it can be. Then, instead of putting it on your own dead blog, send it to one you admire and pray they post it.
My last piece of advice: Have fun!!!
