Quit Whining and Get Rid of It!

Look, I know that I am just as guilty of being a whiner when it comes to housework, but honestly we need to just break down and DO IT!

Do You Hate To Do Laundry?

Yeah, me too!  Figure out why you hate it so much.  Honestly, how hard is it to stick a load of clothes in the washer, move them to the dryer, and spend a few minutes putting them away?  For me, it is MAJORLY difficult.  Why?  Because we honestly have entirely too many clothes for our small closets.  I want to keep griping about the size of our closets, but we don’t even wear the mess in them!  We wear the clothes that stay in the laundry room.  It would make more sense to get rid of the stuff in the closets and put the things we actually wear into them.  Right?  I own 9 pair of jeans… do you know how many of them fit me? One… yes, ONE!

What about you?  Are you honestly going to wear your prom dress again?  When your daughter gets old enough (in my case, I don’t even HAVE a daughter) it won’t be in style anyway.  Spring is coming… clean out your closets and have a yard sale.  Call the Mission of Hope (or similar place in your area) and set up a time for them to come to your house (on the day of the yard sale) to take anything not sold.  They will load it up and it will be GONE.

What is the best way?

Chances are, if you are reading this, you have hit a majorly low point (like I have as I write this).  You have literally piles of laundry all over your house.  You want to sweep and mop, but it is really difficult with all the overflowing laundry baskets.  Trust me, I know exactly how you feel… here is a corner of my kitchen.  Don’t believe me?  Compare the dog in the picture with the dog in my header.  Yep, MY HOUSE!

Now is the perfect time to clean out your closets and dressers.

I have a bunch of really nice outfits from when I was an administrative assistant, but aside from the fact that I now wear sweat pants most days… they don’t fit me.  Why am I holding on to them?  Some of them are in great shape and I am planning to put them in a box in the top of the closet labeled “Nice Clothes, Size Four, Feb 2010”.  That way, if in 6 months if I haven’t touched the box, I can get rid of it. :-) Six month from now will be August, the perfect time for a “back to school” yard sale.

Once you get your closets cleaned out, it will be much easier to put the clean laundry away.  Plus, as you are putting away be sure to decide if it only got washed because it was on the floor or if you actually wear it.  If you don’t wear it, toss it in a yard sale box. :-)

Remember, you are not alone!  I am tackling my cleaning, too.  In fact, you can join us in the Cleaning Game to help you get your housework tackled!

This is exactly what I’m spending today doing. It’s such a lovely day outside but I’m spending it purging. Oh well.

Laundry…. oh, we do not get along!

    Evil, yes it is.

And you’re right. How hard is it? The machines do all the work….. excpet, the folding, hanging put away part.

My laundry room is still under construction. I started re-orging it a few weeks back. Made a dent, but it is such a big job when you do laundry for 7 people.

I added a folding table to mine- we have enough room so I bought a 6 foot banquet table. Laundry mats have a place to fold, why not? Should keep it off my kitchen table.

The piles of clothes are too embarrasing, or I would share pictures. But you’re right, I need to just get it done!

I’m in a similar situation. I have two girls, ages 7 and 5. Their clothes are never in the drawers or closets. Why? Because if it’s my 7 year olds, then it can be saved to be hand me downs to my 5 year old. My 5 year old fits anywhere between 18 month old clothes (I’m not kidding!) and 4 -5 yr clothes. I can’t seem to get rid of anything! And I have inlaws buying me more all the time. Which I shouldn’t complain about but how many outfits do my girls need! *cry*

    @Badger Mom,

I am actually working on a post that addresses that very question “Which I shouldn’t complain about but how many outfits do my girls need!”
    ;-) Stay tuned :-)

Love the picture of the dog in the laundry that when you know its bad, ha ha. My problem isn’t doing the laundry it’s folding it, I don’t know why I hate it so much.
Oh and I do need to go through our closets so badly. Garage sale is on our task list, and has been for 2 year, eek!

Love the little pooch in the pile! what breed is he?? or she??! yep… I hate laundry… any chore that repeats itself daily… hate those kind.. give me a toilet to scrub… a garden to weed… ok … the carpet to vacuum I don’t mind.. its therapy! but dishes and laundry go away! (oops that would leave us naked and hungry!) thank goodness my hubby doesn’t mind helping with those chores … too much! =) I try to embrace it… and I do .. sometimes.. rarely… sort of.. the radio helps!

Sight unseen, Annie was a Chihuahua… but, who on earth knows what she actually is. LOL! One thing I know, she has the softest fur I have ever felt.

I hate doing laundry and I just have to do my own. You on the other hand have to go through every other filthy laundry, sorry about that.

I know what you mean about clothes that we no longer wear. Our closet is jam-packed with clothes that DH and I haven’t worn in more than 10 years. It’s been easier to donate the outgrown kids’ clothes than to get rid of our own; I wonder why that is!

We are just as bad, so I feel ya! I think because the kids grow so quickly and we figure we should have stopped growing. ;-)

I’m SLOWLY working on it! I had gained weight…. then lost it… now 32 weeks pregnant so as it stands, I’mnot sure WHAT other than the maternity clothes I’ll be getting rid of but rest assured – my closet will be taking a BIG purge! When I worked in law I had a TON of clothes… I’ve slowly donated some, held on to a few favorites (even though I HAVENT worn them)… why? Because they’re good to wear to funerals too — isn’t that sad?! I do need to purge a little more… I am proud to say that I went from about 80 pair of shoes down to maybe 15! :) And that includes my four pair of SLIPPERS! :) That felt good!
