We all make our school supply lists in August and start stocking up on:
- School Supplies
- School Shoes
- School Uniforms
Plus, we have all those other expenses
- Fall Sports
- School Fees
- Clothes for outside of school
We sail through the next month so nicely. Then, October hits and we have:

- Candy for the neighborhood kids
- Decorations
- Candy for the Classroom Kids
- Project Supplies for the Homeschooled Kids
- Land Taxes
What does November bring?
- School Plays
- Thanksgiving
- Pumpkin Patch
- Black Friday
December is supposedly the most expensive month of the year.. Bah, I don’t think so!
- Christmas
- New Year’s Eve
January…. January is KILLING ME!
- Spring Sports
- New School Uniforms (you know, the others are now too little)
- New School Shoes (see above)
- New School Supplies (because the other “poor” kids have used all of Zachary’s!)

- Taxes
- Project Supplies for February’s Black History Month Theme (homeschool)
- Yearly Check Ups for EVERYONE
What about you? How is 2010 treating your wallet? Do you have any money saving tips for me?

I buy at least 3 times as much of exhaustable supplies (like crayons, markers, pencils, notebooks, etc) during the huge back to school sales than I think we’ll need. I send to school only what is on their list (which btw, those lists tend to be a JOKE!) and keep the excess at home in totes labelled “school supplies”. As folders are torn to pieces, crayons are used by classmates, pencils lost to the backpack monster, I replace as needed. It’s a bigger chunk of change up front, but it saves quite a bit through the year. We are lucky though, we don’t need uniforms here!
