Blogging Basics: How to Add Buttons to Blogger and WordPress

February 17th, 2010 · 5 Comments

Simply Stacie asked me how to add the retweet button to her Blogger blog during last week’s hunt for topic ideas.   I thought this was a GREAT question because I don’t have the buttons on my Word Press blog either. LOL!  So, I did a bit of research.

If you have a blogger blog:

To add a ReTweet button to each post, Blogging Resources has an awesome, step-by-step article with pictures to help you put the correct code in the right spot! See How To add ReTweet Button to Blogger.

To add a Digg button to each post, Tips for New Bloggers has a great post, again with pictures.  The language is very “dummy” friendly. :-)   See Add Digg Button to Blogger or Blogspot.

To add FaceBook share button to each post, All Blog Tools wrote a neat post after many questions from blog readers.  You even have 3 different button options!  See Adding FaceBook Share Button for Blogger Posts.

If you have a Word Press blog:

ReTweet Button Oh, life is so much easier on Word Press.  The name of the plug in you need to add Tweet Meme is TweetMeme Button

Digg Button – This one is a bit more difficult.  First you will want the Digg This plug in, then you need to visit Patrick Yuen Photography for step-by-step instructions of how to install and set it up.  This plug in required a bit of code changes.  No worries, he has instructions that seem to be pretty clear.

FaceBook Share Button – The name of the plug in you want to add to your word press blog is Facebook share (new) button. :-)

I am adding these to my to do list.  I am a bit afraid of adding the buttons right now because I don’t want to see zeros all over my blog. LOL!  But, as my site grows (or as I find a bit more time) I just might have to add them.

Don’t forget to send me your questions either in comments or via email.  I will do my best to answer them or point you in the right direction. :-)
