This is the perfect subject to bring you girls this late in the year! Everyone who wants to make their blog a business should set goals. Short term and long term goals. Lots of people don’t know what to include as goals. Well, I set goals each month and will be taking them a step further this year. But, here are the goals I set (in fact, I made a spreadsheet that I can fill out each month):
- Technorati Authority
- Number of Blog Posts
- Google Connect Followers (doesn’t look like I am going to reach this goal)
- Email Feed Followers
- Twitter Followers
- Networked Blogs
- Web Grade – www.websitegrader.com
- Blog Grade – www.bloggrader.com
- Links In (web grader and blog grader are so different that I just use my Google Analytics on this one)
- Visitors
- Alexa Rank
- Compete Rank
- Articles posted to Digg
- Google Page Rank
Then, I work my rear off trying to reach those goals.
How? By utilizing all the Blogging Basics that I have been bringing each of you. How do I decide how much increase I want? For the first time I recorded my stats then a month later, recorded them again and set goals for the next month. I paid attention to the increase number and made the next month’s goals increase by more. Make sense?
For example if my Twitter Followers were 900 and in a month they increased to 1,000 then for the next month I made my goals to increase them by 110.
You may want some other goals, also like money making goals, guest posters, starting a new thread (aka like I started Blogging Basics), etc. If you make a post about your goals, I would LOVE to see it. Please leave a comment with the direct link.
Good luck making goals and working to reach them!

This is great stuff and obviously you have a great understanding of this. But I would stress that the number one thing to do before trying to make money with your blog is to have fun with it! put lots of useful content on it and make sure you have some constant form of traffic. you can also use google trends to maybe write a blog post on something that so many people are looking up that day in hopes of getting new traffic. Good luck you all!
