Is it just me? A small vent…

I am on a yahoo group that I really like most of the time. The only thing is people seem to think there is only one way to homeschool and it is their way. I get so frustrated by things… I would like to find a group that is more in line with my thoughts, beliefs, and homeschooling style.

Is this just me? For example: when I ask for help finding something, I get tons of people telling me I shouldn’t do that instead of helping me. Do others experience this same thing?

Homeschooling Notes: Friday, January 30th

In addition to working through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Tripp completed the following books during January:

1. A Child’s Guide to Concentration (unsure of pages, came from his doctor) – Jan 7th
2. Blind Spot (RPM) (203 pgs) – Jan 10th
3. Storm Chasers (24 pages) – Jan 12th
4. The Spiderwick Chronicles: Great Escape (The Spiderwick Chronicles) (57 pages) – Jan. 15th
5. Check in to danger (90 pages) – Jan. 23rd
6. The Black Pearl Mystery (121 pages) – Jan. 29th

He is currently reading Mysteries of ships and planes – on page 26 of 113. It doesn’t seem like a lot but he only reads for about 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. I think he is doing great!

We read Harry Potter together, the others he does on his own during quiet time.

Geological Survey of Alabama

Picture+009 Geological Survey of Alabama

UPDATED 2/16/09 to include the picture of my son with his Marble and Hematite.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~
I tell you, we had a FABULOUS mail day today. A couple weeks ago Tripp wrote a letter to the Alabama Geological Survey publication office requesting some publications. Today we got a huge package containing the following:

5 posters, the smallest being about 3′ x 2′!! showing the Alabama minerals, fossils, water resources, and more!

3 postcards

2 brochures about our coastal waterways

A printout telling about Alabama’s two major minerals: Hematite and Marble

A printout giving us listings of websites we can visit for more info.

PLUS, the majorly fun part:

a chunk of Marble the size of my fist and a chunk of Hematite just a hair smaller than that!

Of course, my little science guy was in Heaven pouring over his materials for over an hour. I tried getting pictures, but my batteries are dead and all the others have mysteriously disappeared. I blame my middle boy, Zack, on the disappearance as he seems to have a battery fetish . As soon as the batteries turn up or I break down and buy more, I will update this blog with pictures. icon smile Geological Survey of Alabama

Now, he wants to write to the remaining 49 states’ geological survey headquarters to get more minerals LOL! Of course, being the great homeschooling mom that I am, I have spent a bit of time looking for addresses… hey, if it will make him write, I am all for it! Plus, you just never know what free resources they are just waiting to send out icon smile Geological Survey of Alabama .
